Real-Time Reo

Whānau Ora

In Aotearoa, New Zealand, te reo Māori is a taonga (treasure). Despite its significance, the language struggles to find its place in daily life.

Research shows a 60% higher retention rate for vocabulary learned in context. So to celebrate Te Wiki o te Reo Māori (Māori Language Week), Whānau Ora launched Real-Time Reo: a campaign transforming digital billboards into live language lessons.

Live data—such as weather, time, and news— generated relevant phrases with translations, creating meaningful learning moments in real-time. Supporting efforts to protect the indigenous language of Aotearoa.
